Bobbin Lace resources on YouTube by The Lace Bee
I participate in the chatter on lace at Reddit. I know—not everyone enjoys Reddit and it can be a swamp. But there are some nice islands in the swamp, and the lace subreddits are pretty good. You can post images there, get help from other lacemakers, ask questions about books, and so on. There is very little trolling because nobody cares about lace except us. The worst part is that we have people who post what I call “sexy time” lace because they think it’s the kind of content we discuss. It is not…. We have put on the “automoderator” to catch those for the most part.
But frequently people come by—especially new lacemakers—asking for videos to watch. Of course, YouTube is the place for that, but it is hard to sift through the legit stuff there. There is almost too much. And as a newbie you don’t really know who is the real thing, you just don’t have the skill yet to know what’s the right method or if the information is correct.
For example, you might not find the Wolds Lacemakers as they sort to the end alphabetically—but they have the greatest videos that are a “Stitch Bank” similar to the Royal School of Needlework Stitchbank that is so great. Their #40LaceStitches playlist is what you want.
Enter The Lace Bee to the rescue! She has curated a collection of YouTube resources with quality information on lacemaking. The Lace Bee has a history of great help—you might also enjoy her extensive guidance on books. And now videos. She’s terrific.
